SARS, MERS, COVID-19: Identification of Patients at a Higher Risk: A Narrative Review

The different presentations, comorbidities, and outcomes of COVID-19 highlight the importance early identification proper triage patients. High-risk patients can be divided into with common comorbidities special categories. Common include, but are not limited to, Cardiovascular Disease (CVD), Diabetes Mellitus (DM), immunosuppression, underlying respiratory disease, obesity. Certain categories also at increased risk, including neonates pregnant women. In present article, we delineate reported risk factors for acquisition infection, severity clinical disease. We comparatively analyze those associated antecedent human acute syndrome-causing viruses, SARS-CoV-1 MERS-CoV. hypothesize that structural similarities three viruses predict a similarity in profile high-risk Several pathophysiological patterns have been detected to support this theory.
